America's biggest and best free rib festival is back! The 26th annual Best in the West Nugget Rib Cook-off will run Wednesday, August 27 through Monday, September 1, 2014. Come out and enjoy the country's best rib competition and the best ribs in the West as we once again transform Victorian Square in downtown Sparks into a must-attend culinary, music, craft, and family end-of-summer affair.

As always, parking and admission are free.

PARKING: Free parking in the surrounding areas of Victorian Square, Sparks, Nevada.
ACCOMMODATIONS: JA Nugget is the host hotel.
SHUTTLES: FREE shuttles from Legends at Sparks Marina (Pick-up location between Fudrucker's and Popeye's). Wednesday-Friday from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Drop-off location: RTC Centennial Plaza, Victorian Ave at 14th St.
RIB COOKERS: 24 from all around the world.
WEATHER: Typically sunny and hot (~90°F) w/ afternoon winds.
PETS/ANIMALS: Pets and non-service animals are not permitted on Victorian Square per local regulations.
ATTENDANCE: More than 500,000 people
ADMISSION: FREE


All food booths will be open from 11:00 a.m.—9:00 p.m., Wednesday—Sunday and from 11:00 a.m.—5:00 p.m. on Monday.  Food and concessions will be available during event hours only. The Kids' Area is open every day. Pets and non-service animals are not permitted on Victorian Square, per local regulations.

The VIP Rib Village is open Wednesday—Sunday from 4—9pm, and Monday from 12—5pm.

Enjoy great food and FREE top-name entertainment on five different stages all weekend long!  Don't miss the Annual Nugget Rib Eating Championship on the Wednesday before Labor Day weekend, at 6 p.m. on the Main Concert Stage. This Major League Eating sanctioned event will feature top professional eaters from around the world!

Going Green

Since 2011, 82,140 pounds of waste has been diverted from landfills because of our recycling and composting efforts at The Best in the West Nugget Rib Cook-Off.

We are working to make the Best in the West Nugget Rib Cook-off more environmentally friendly! All Rib Village plates, cups, utensils and napkins are made of compostable materials. Outside of the Village, Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful will have 2 compost and recycling stations to capture as much of the refuse as possible. Our goal is to capture 100% of the refuse in the Rib Village for composting and recycling and as much refuse as possible from outside of the Rib Village.
